Draw Regeneration
DRAW REGENERATION
Porifera’s draw regeneration system takes diluted draw coming out of the forward osmosis process and separates it into concentrated draw and pure water for reuse on site. Our engineers designed the draw regeneration system using a combination of membrane and thermal processing technologies.
RO is used when the feed has high fouling properties and only relatively low concentration is required. RO draw regeneration is the most energy efficient and has low installation requirements but cannot achieve product concentrations higher than 25 Brix or TDS equivalent of 100,000 mg/L.
Porifera’s proprietary ROx technology extends the low-energy use and low installation requirements of membrane systems to achieve medium-level concentrations. With ROx products can be concentrated to about 50 Brix or TDS equivalent of 200,000 mg/L.
When concentration just above the limit of ROx are required, customers consider draw concentration increase by adding draw as a consumable. For large systems, ROx can also be combined with evaporators to reduce overall system energy use.
Evaporators are used to achieve the highest concentrations. While this process requires the most energy, it does allow us to concentrate products up to 65-70 Brix. Customers are often able to utilize existing evaporator capacity for draw regeneration.
Distillation Columns are used for draw regeneration when processing alcoholic beverages or ethanol-containing extracts.
