Municipal Water Reuse
FAIL-SAFE POTABLE WATER REUSE
How can Porifera technology help you reuse water safely and cost-effectively?
Generate Clean Water for Reuse
Porifera technology is designed to be easier to permit and provide enhanced treatment for potable reuse. Alternatively, it can also can be used to pre-concentrate organics in raw sewage prior to anaerobic digestion or to concentrate NPK nutrients post-digestion.
Our process is unique because it gently removes water from even the most contaminated waste streams creating pure water for reuse and provides a new mechanism for fail-safe pathogen removal. Our patented DPRShield process combines tight FO membranes with RO membranes to minimize passage of contaminants into the product water to achieve higher rejection of Emerging Contaminants of Concern (ECOCs) that are difficult to remove with standard RO.
DPRShield enables fail-safe reuse & indirect potable reuse
Fail-safe Pathogen Rejection
Our systems can be configured to continuously prevent passage of viruses and other pathogens via a unique Breach-Activated Barrier. The system uses reverse water pressure to instantaneously close off not only large breaches, but even the smallest breaches that are difficult to measure, providing peace of mind with continuous proof that the purification system continues to work as designed.
Real-time, high resolution integrity monitoring and breach detection
DPRShield provides real-time, instantaneous breach detection of greater than 8-log pathogen removal (> 4-log; >99.99% removal via FO and > 4-log; >99.99% removal via RO. This is 100x more sensitive than other real-time monitoring of osmotic membrane technologies on the market today, a breakthrough advancement for potable reuse. All Porifera water reuse systems contain a double barrier.
Reduce energy per log removal value (LRV) credit
While combining FO with RO uses more energy than FO alone (exact amount depends on optimized FO and RO flux rates and water recoveries), the combination used with a marker (DprShield) can double the amount of LRV credits given to RO based on the typical method of real-time integrity monitoring. Furthermore, FO can provide an additional 4-log of LRV credits and increase LRV credits for 1,4 dioxane, NDMA and other key contaminants of concern.
